It takes a village to build a village! Help build the first Youth Tiny House Village in the US. Be an ally to homeless youth!

Youth Spirit Artworks is building a Youth Tiny House Village serving 22 homeless Oakland and Berkeley young people, ages 18 to 25, opening in August 2020 at 633 Hegenberger Rd in Oakland. We need your help!

Currently we have 13 Working Groups of volunteers engaged as allies in our youth-led project. Those needing volunteer support right now are:

--Murphy beds--we need people to help build and also paint murphy beds for the houses, contact: theandykahn@yahoo.com;
--Landscaping--we need people to help build and plant wooden planters, contact: Jilly@youthspiritartworks.org;
--Interiors--we need people to continue to help us gather all the furniture we need for the Youth Tiny House Village, and we need people to sew curtains and pillows, contact: jilly@youthspiritartworks.org;
--Bikes/Transportation--we need people who help us gather bikes and bike gear for the Village and to help build the bike shed, contact: Jilly@youthspiritartworks.org;
--Development: we need people to help fund raise for the Village, including approaching Bay Area corporations, contact: shindman@youthspiritartworks.org
--Tiny House builds: we need people to help finish construction of tiny houses for the village, contact Jilly@youthspiritartworks.org
--Murals--we need people to engage their congregations in helping paint prayer and blessing mural planks for our fence, contact: Simone@youthspiritartworks.org

General requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexible! Volunteers are working anywhere from 1 hour per week to 24 hours per week currently! We need all kinds of people folks with varying skills and ability to commit time.
  • Youth Spirit is working with a base of 32 interfaith partner congregations in this project. Comfort working with folks from the progressive religious community is a must. Volunteers need to covenant to use healthy, nonviolent communication.
