Many Lights Foundation is recruiting a board member from the greater Seattle and South King County area to serve on our Board of Directors as Treasurer for a minimum two-year term. A retiree with proper experience is an ideal candidate and highly sought for this position. Dedication to the organization's mission is essential.
Board Member Responsibilities:Plan strategically for the future of Many LightsSpeak and advocate for Many Lights and our missionHelp connect Many Lights to your communityParticipate in fund development activities throughout the yearTreasurer Responsibilities:Serve as Chief Financial Officer of the organizationForm and manage the finance committee acting as its chairWork with the chief executive officer, staff, and contractors to ensure appropriate financial reports are available to the board on a timely basis at least quarterly and as requested.Work with staff, contract accountant, and bookkeeper to ensure proper accounting of the organization's finances and transactions.Along with the chief executive officer, prepare the annual budget, program budgets, and interim budgets as needed for grant applications, presenting the budget to the board for approval.Review and answer questions about any audits, working with contractors, chief executive and board.Maintain adequate and correct accounting of the organization’s business transactions including assets, liabilities, receipts, and disbursementsFollow through on commitments and deliver on time reports and budgets.Qualifications:Understanding of financial accounting for nonprofit organizationsExperience in budget creation including research and analysisAmple time available to perform responsibilities
Board Terms:Serve a minimum 2-year termAttend monthly board meetingsAttend an annual retreat or strategic planning meetingActively work on one or more committeesParticipate in special projects as needed including fundraisingDemonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission and vision
Time Commitment: Board members may expect to serve on average 4-10 hours per month. Meetings are the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m.
