Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit vision + healthcare organization with a longstanding heritage of serving the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as those with multiple disabilities or chronic medical conditions. We help people of all ages who are at risk for, or are experiencing, vision loss. We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness.

The Adult Day Health Care Program (GuildCare) provides healthcare and recreation for multicultural seniors with vision loss as well as chronic medical conditions. A volunteer with experience providing health and recreation for seniors is needed to serve as a Health and Wellness Instructor.


Under the direction of the program director or designee the Health and Wellness Instructor will:

  • Develop and implement inter-disciplinary health and wellness programming at the Adult Day Health Care program.
  • Coordinate group health-related workshops, wellness lectures and organize healthy activities.
  • Otherwise conduct activities that promote, maintain and improve client’s health and wellness.

  • Ability to integrate health and wellness initiatives in disabled and blind social environment.
  • Prior experience implementing wellness programs and activities and the ability to keep seniors inspired.
  • Degree in health education/promotion, public health, community health or a related field and/or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) designation required.
  • Bilingual Spanish or Russian/English preferred but not required.
  • DETAILS OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:This is an ongoing opportunity that begins upon approval by staff members. Candidates must be available Monday-Saturday from 9:00am-3:00pm, at least but not limited to one hour per week, plus any time required for planning and preparation. A health form and proof of immunizations must be completed by physician. All candidates must be tested for TB prior to volunteering. The attire during this position is business casual.
