Make a difference by serving as a GED tutor! Adults who obtain a GED (high school equivalency) credential are able to access postsecondary education and are more likely to obtain employment with opportunities for professional and financial growth.

As a volunteer with our program, you can set your own schedule and tutor adult students in reading, writing, English language, math, science, social studies, goal setting, career exploration, and/or computer skills.

Takoda GED is a program of American Indian OIC, a nonprofit organization that provides education and employment services. We focus on meeting the needs of the Native community in Minneapolis, but our programs are open to everyone. About 70% of our students identify as American Indian, and about 95% are people of color. We are conveniently located at the Franklin Avenue Blue Line station.

  • Must be at least 21
  • Orientation or Training
  • Minimum one hour per week for two months
  • You must attend 12 hours of training, which costs $40. Fee waivers available.
