The Bookmobile currently travels to 14 sites weekly providing families on the Wai'anae coast access to books and, hopefully, a life-long love of reading and learning. The Bookmobile visits the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wai'anae and Nanakuli, and housing developments like Kauiokalani, Mā'ili Land, 'Ohana Ola O Kahumana, as well as family homeless or emergency shelters like Pai'olu.
Children can read and check out books, as well as participate in literacy-related activities each day. There are also books for young people and adults to enjoy. The Bookmobile is equipped with laptop computers and tablets for the children and/or their caregivers to use.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to work with the Youth Peer Tutoring program, which trains older children to work with their younger peers throughout the week to improve their reading and writing skills. This program was launched in the Summer of 2015, and we are excited to see it continue to grow!
