Project Details

The South-East Asia Center is looking for people to teach English or citizenship to adult learners from South-East Asian countries.

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with an adult learner at least once a week. Because tutoring works best when there is a continuing relationship between tutor and student, we ask that tutors make a commitment to work with the same learner for three months. Once your training is complete, our coordinator will pair you up with an adult learner and help you get started with lesson planning and learning materials.

This is a wonderful opportunity to help refugees and immigrants adjust to their new lives in Chicago.

During the coronavirus pandemic, we are recruiting and training teachers remotely to start teaching our on-site classes when we resume this summer in an environment which promotes safety for teachers and students.
