The Michigan HIV/STD Hotline is an initiative funded by the Department of Health and Human Services and facilitated by Unified HIV Health and Beyond. The hotline was designed to provide point-to-point communication for individuals who need non-emergency responses from public health agencies in Michigan. Callers can receive information related to personal sexual health. The anonymous and confidential HIV/STD hotline serves as a safe haven for Michigan residents of any age, gender, and sexual orientation. The state-wide hotline serves as a convenient and free resource center for callers to ask specific questions related to HIV exposure, sexually transmitted diseases, and how to improve health risk reduction practices of sexual behavior. Callers who utilize the hotline service typically have concerns regarding contraction of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, experiencing symptoms of HIV/STIs, and questions regarding testing. Designated trained hotline operators are both UHHB staff and volunteers. Hotline operators listen, comfort, and give appropriate non-medical recommendations to callers and log demographic information from each call-in.
