Project Amistad serves as the court-appointed guardian of over 350 wards in El Paso County and 35 other West Texas counties who have been found to be incapacitated and unable to support or protect their own health and welfare.
Volunteers assist our guardians in giving social support to our wards by providing regular social visits. Volunteers are matched with wards that live in or nearby their neighborhoods. Friendly visits offer tremendous benefits to our wards including improved physical, mental and emotional health and keeping a positive outlook.
Volunteers can also help wards who need assistance with grocery shopping due to frailty, balance issues, or who no longer drive. Grocery shopping assistance helps wards maintain a sense of independence, as well as a home stocked with fresh food.
