Volunteers help to plant native seeds that will later be transplanted to a restoration site.


The Native Plant Nursery Volunteer will assist in planting seeds, trans-planting and growing native plant species in containers. These plants will be used for habitat restoration or trail restoration within the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. The Native Plant Nursery Volunteer will visit the nursery on an individual basis or with other IRC-Certified Volunteers or staff to water seedlings and complete other as-needed nursery tasks. The Native Plant Nursery Volunteer will also assist in volunteer activities held at the nursery, which are regularly scheduled and open to the public. The Native Plant Nursery Volunteer will work closely with the Community Stewardship Coordinator and other IRC-Certified Volunteers.


  • Completion of an Irvine Ranch Conservancy potential volunteer Orientation and Training
  • Completion of two training programs covering protocol, locks and gates, policies and procedures
  • Completion of Land Steward or Farm Steward training
  • Shadow a minimum of three times at a stewardship event with evaluation form filled out by the lead volunteer or staff
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Negative TB Test
  • Completion of the City of Irvine Workers Compensation Form
  • Successful Background Check through Southeastern Screening Services (SSCI)
  • A signed Volunteer Liability Waiver (done annually)
  • General requirements
