Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents, and Their Families, provides peer support groups and referral services, at no cost, to those who have experienced the death of a loved one.
The Highmark Caring Place is a safe place where grieving children and their families talk about their feelings and memories with each other in the presence of caring volunteers. The Caring Place helps grieving children know they are not alone.
Volunteers facilitate group activities and discussions with children and/or adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. At least two volunteers are placed in each group room.
Training is provided to learn more about children' s grief, listening skills, child development and facilitating support groups. New volunteers are placed with "veteran volunteers."
