Living Classroom is seeking volunteers who are excited about sharing their love of nature with children by teaching our fun hands-on garden-based lessons in the Los Altos School District. Once trained, our volunteers become official Living Classroom docents who lead and assist with lessons from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade in nine public schools. Lessons cover topics such as life cycles, photosynthesis, decomposition, ecology, biodiversity and more!
In our second grade "From Seed to Pretzel" lesson series, students explore and plant wheat in the fall and then harvest, thresh, and grind their wheat into flour in the springtime and use the whole wheat flour to make delicious pretzels to eat!
It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule. Most volunteers assist with and/or lead garden-based lessons during the school day. We also have garden and office projects that can be done anytime, including weekends and/or evenings.
