Project Details

The ZSFG Library at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital in San Francisco needs volunteers to help at the library itself as well as spreading the word about online health literacy resources!

We are especially looking for volunteers who can assist us directly at the library in the late mornings into early afternoons Mondays through Fridays. This would involve some desk work as well as general assistance as needed. We don't need a full commitment for every day of the week, but the more, the better!

Volunteers would also work with patients directly at the ZSFG hospital to help them learn about resources like MedlinePlus, supported by the National Library of Medicine, as well as an introduction to Epic/MyChart, the patient portal setup used by the San Francisco Health Network at ZSFG as well as the city/county clinics.

Volunteers would also be able to assist in informing patients about the library in turn, including our ZSFG Reads program, which allows patients and members of the public to check out from our collection of general fiction and nonfiction reading, as well as our Consumer Health collection.

Shifts are available in the mornings and afternoons, Mondays through Fridays. We are closed on weeknights and weekends.

We are especially interested in volunteers who may also speak one or more of our key language groups we serve at ZSFG: Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese or Russian. This is not a requirement.

Volunteers interested in further experience in the medical field would also get the opportunity to shadow nurses and physicians elsewhere in the hospital.

Thank you for your interest! We look forward to hearing from you.
