The Volunteer ESOL Tutor meets 1 to 2 hours once a week at a regularly scheduled time and place for a minimum of 6 months with an adult ESOL student who wants to improve his or her English conversation, writing and reading skills. The tutor’s mission is to help the student achieve his or her personal goals and therefore organizes and conducts the tutoring sessions accordingly. Volunteers tutor at libraries or a mutually agreed upon location. You may continue tutoring the same student longer than 6 months, if mutually interested. Tutors must be at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Patience, sensitivity, and flexibility are essential. You are not required to know the student’s native language.
