At Seasons, Our Loyal Friends pet teams brings "Big Smiles" to our patients and families through animal assisted visitation and companionship. The minute a dog enters into a care facility; broad smiles can be seem from staff and residents alike! Regardless of how patients are feeling on any given day, or how they look or sound, our dogs are happy to see them. There are so many benefits to pet visitation in hospice care. The simple presence of a dog or therapy animal can add to the physical, social and emotional well-being of patients and families facing terminal illness.
To join, our Loyal Friends Pet Team, volunteers need to attend a free, comprehensive orientation and training program. Fury friends must be up-to-date on all their vaccines, meet our Loyal friends pet team guidelines and must be accredited as a pet therapy animal through the Delta society (now Loyal Partners), TDI, or other accredited therapy dog association.
The time commitment for volunteering is flexible and based on individual availability. Most correspondence can be done by phone, mail or email, eliminating the need to come to the offices on a regular basis. Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care serves most of Connecticut. That means that volunteers serve close to home or work.
