Project Details

Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center offers free and confidential advocacy and counseling services to anyone who has been a victim of crime and/or their friends and family. Staff and trained volunteers also operate a 24-hour sexual assault crisis hotline.

Sexual Assault Hotline Advocates provide crisis intervention, support, information and referrals to survivors of sexual assault on the phone or in Albany County hospitals via the Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center’s crisis hotline. They may also occasionally provide police station accompaniment.

The Center welcomes all persons 18 years and older who have the ability to listen, understand and support callers as Sexual Assault Hotline Advocates.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Six month commitment is required. Volunteers are asked to sign up for three to four shifts per month.
  • Sexual Assault Hotline Advocates must complete an initial, 35-hour training which consists of a combination of online and in-person training in order to receive NYS
