The mission of the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County is to promote self-sufficiency and educational success for low-income children by providing a long-term program of mentoring, tutoring, social & academic enrichment, and guaranteed scholarships for higher education. These children (Dreamers) are from diverse ethnic, social and economic backgrounds and are encouraged to recognize that, with the proper education and focus, they can realize their dreams. Our ultimate goal is for each Dreamer to graduate from high school prepared either for further education or fulfilling employment.
Here in the affluent Boulder County community, there are "invisible," impoverished communities whose young people face tremendous obstacles to academic and life success. The "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County is dedicated to helping these low-income youth achieve a brighter future. The program "adopts" a group of Dreamers in third grade and provides a year-round program of tutoring, mentoring, after-school enrichment, computer technology training, life and social skills, and college and career preparation until they finish high school. The goal of the long-term support is to provide these youth with the guaranteed comprehensive support and trusting relationships they need to complete school. When they do, they receive a four-year tuition-assistance scholarship for higher education.
Currently, "I Have a Dream" actively works with over 350 Dreamers from 9 of its 12 Dreamer classes, including 5 Dreamer classes (grades 3-12) and over 100 Dreamers in post-secondary education. The comprehensive, year-round programming offered includes one-on-one tutoring and mentoring, literacy and STEM support, computer technology training, life skills workshops, health and wellness workshops, extracurricular opportunities, parental development outreach, public achievement / service learning opportunities, and college and career preparation.
