Mission Statement

The National Kidney Foundation, a major voluntary nonprofit health organization, is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.

Through our offices nationwide, the NKF provides vital patient and community services, conducts extensive public and professional education, advocates for patients through legislative action and supports kidney research to identify new treatments.

The NKF relies on individual and corporate donations, business partnerships, foundation and government grants and revenue from special events. More than 81 cents of each dollar donated to NKF goes directly to support its programs and services.


PORTLAND, OR - SEPT 2010 - The National Kidney Foundation will celebrate the Inaugural Portland Author’s Luncheon Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 10 AM at the Hilton Portland. The luncheon features six internationally known authors: Julie Powell, Armistead Maupin, Stacy Schiff, Condoleezza Rice, Tom Lichtenheld and Jacqueline Winspear . Each of these renowned authors will address the audience during a gourmet lunch. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the authors, purchase books, and obtain autographs before and after the luncheon.

N ational Kidney Foundation’s Premier Literary Event: The National Kidney Foundation has a long history of successful author events including the 21st Annual San Francisco Authors luncheon and the 15th Annual Sacramento Authors Luncheon as well as single author events. These events have featured many of the world’s most popular authors, involved over 30,000 patrons in 20 years and have raised over $10 million in support of NKF programs

Why This Event is Important: Nearly 500,000 people in Oregon suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease. The luncheon proceeds support the work of the National Kidney Foundation to directly enhance the lives of people in our community who are either dialysis or transplant patients or at risk for developing kidney disease.
